Generic Skills shortage found in Welsh businesses! -What does this mean for your company?

In a 2004 ELWA funded study of 6000 Welsh companies, nineteen per cent of employers reported gaps in the skills their employees have and the skills required to undertake their jobs.

The generic skills identified as being most important to employers in Wales were:

Communication Skills
Team building
Problem solving
Adaptability flexibility

Interestingly workers ranked their own skill levels higher than their managers ranked them, illustrating either an overestimation of ability, or under use of available skills

The good news for busness is that the study also highlights the business benefits of skills investment; these included greater competitiveness, increased productivity and faster growth.
