Well so close and yet so far for Lewis Hamilton in his first season with F1. After watching the race I think, engine problems aside, he made a serious error at the start and through the impetuousity of youth nearly spun off trying to regain his position after being passed by Alonso. That said what a first season! However it does illustrate that no matter how talented, and this boy is talented, new talent needs to be managed to ensure the individuals don't self destruct .
This is why in our field you cannot underestimate the importance of graduate training programmes. Companies take a chance on what they feel are the most talented individuals in an increasingly large graduate pool. Even when satisfied that you have a rigorous selection process to choose the best this does not guarantee success. There will still be a need to manage the talent and assimilate the individuals into the Company. For more information visit our graduate training programme page.
